Successful Freshers Week

Strathclyde University SNP celebrated its best freshers yet. With 23 new members and good number of new members turning up to our post-freshers event, we know we're off to a good start for the coming year.

ENVIRONMENT QUESTION TIME AT STRATHCLYDE TODAY

Staff and students are invited to attend an Environment Question Time on Monday 23rd of February (TODAY) at 5pm in the Debates Chamber, Level 6 of the Strathclyde Student's Union, John Street, Glasgow.

There will be speakers from across the political spectrum and from environmental interest groups.





Speakers/groups attending are:



Margaret Curran MSP, Scottish Labour Party
Patrick Harvie MSP, Scottish Green Party
John Scott MSP, Scottish Conservative Party
Cllr Grant Thoms, Scottish National Party (SNP)
Scottish Liberal Democrat Spokesperson
Friends of the Earth Spokesperson

The format will be that the speakers answer a few questions provided by the Chair which will engage and start the event and later the floor will be open to the audience to ask what ever question they want on the environment.

As usual there will be drinks provided and as well it should be a good turnout; as these kinds of events tend to be.

VISIT BY JOHN SWINNEY MSP - A THANK YOU FROM SNP STUDENTS

After all the organising over the past week or so, the speaker event last night (Mon 27th October), where John Swinney MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Finance & Sustainable Growth was the guest speaker, the event went extremely well. SNP Students wishes to thank all those who came along, as well as all the staff in the Union and the University who helped us publicise this event - it was a really big help. The final count of people who attended was between 45 and 50, making it one of the most successful events in the history of our branch. The Convener, Frank McNiff also wishes to pass his thanks to the members who helped put up posters and give out leaflets.

The branch has many speakers in the pipeline for visiting Strathclyde; with Mike Russell MSP, the Scottish Environment Minister, coming on November 18th. Also Nicola Sturgeon plans on making a return and Strathclyde SNP Students is working out a time for Education Secretary Fiona Hyslop to attend.




Strathclyde SNP Students elect new executive for the coming year.

Last night (Mon Oct 27th), Strathclyde SNP Students had their AGM, in which they elected their new executive for the coming year. The following people were elected:

CONVENER: Frank McNiff; VICE CONVENER & SECRETARY: Michael Hepburn; TREASURER: Victor Rhynas; ORGANISER: Cllr Jennifer Dunn; PRESS & PUBLICITY: Stephen Ross; SOCIAL CONVENER: Emily-Louise Purdi.

The branch also elected its Honorary President and Vice President. The following people were appointed:

HONORARY PRESIDENT: John Swinney MSP; HONORARY VICE PRESIDENT: Gareth Finn BA.
